A grim, but entirely accurate assessment of our global predicament. My own brief take on this is as follows: collectively, we are doomed, barring an unimaginable miracle. Humanity may or may not survive, but if so, it will be in a vastly diminished state, both in population and availability of resources. But individually, for now, we still have options. It’s pointless to go into detail on this, since the exact contours of the immediate future are unknowable—pure speculation. But we can be quite sure that things will get worse at an accelerating rate. That being the case, our best bet is to adopt useful attitudes for building resilience—not only individually, but also in community. For this, I have coined my own go-to slogan:
Grow gardens; grow community; grow awareness. It’s really all we can do as individuals, from here on.
