Absolutely! This is why a successful Satyagraha campaign usually requires extraordinary leaders, who are simultaneously charismatic, principled, courageous, and strategic, and who can thereby inspire many others to join in their cause, even facing violence, imprisonment, or self-sacrifice, without resorting to hatred or violence themselves.
Such leaders are rare. Besides Gandhi, King, Mandela, and Havel, they include courageous and principled women like Wangari Maathai of Kenya and Vandana Shiva of India. But even after they pass, they can continue to inspire all of us to emulate them.
