Agreed. But we need yet more than green consumerism and political activism. We also need to create a new, regenerative culture from the ground up, by growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness; by assuming responsibility for learning new skills, teaching each other, healing our land and communities, and creating the innovations we will need to relocalize our economy. Individual action is essential, but insufficient. Political action is essential, but always faces massive pushback — including outright corruption and legalized bribery — from entrenched monied interests who are profiting from the status quo. Only action in the middle ground — rebuilding community, collaboration, and mutual learning and teaching — will give us a fighting chance of having a future.
