An astute and deeply depressing analysis. The rapidly accelerating, irreversible climate crisis, however, is a wild card that will bring about the collapse, not only of America, but of our entire global industrial civilization. All we can do individually is to relocalize our economy in every way possible: to grow gardens, grow community, and grow awareness. Because there’s nowhere to run or hide. Guns may protect your children temporarily — but they will not feed or educate them! As financial capital fails, only shared social, intellectual, experiential, cultural, and spiritual capital will sustain us: learning, teaching, healing, and creating.
