An excellent point. The persistent guilt-tripping by me and my friends in the Environmental movement led directly to the toxic culture of resentment in the white working class spawned by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and ultimately resulting in the walking catastrophe of Donald Trump. A much better alternative, I’ve found more recently, is an invitational approach—e.g. “try these locally grown organic vegetables from my local CSA; they are much healthier and tastier than the crap we get at Walmart!”
