Another cleverly dyspeptic rant…with which I agree entirely, but no matter. Is there an alternative to extinction, to a death wish? For me, the alternative can be summed up in the following mantra:
1. Breathe, Observe, Let go. (Reinhabit the present moment by pausing our obsessive cogitations)
2. Be well, do good work, keep in touch. (The best generic daily agenda I know, with gratitude to Garrison Keillor, who coined it.)
3. Learn, Teach, Heal, and Create (the only things worth doing with our lives; everything else is either slavery or addiction or both.)
And then…
4. Grow gardens, grow community, and grow awareness. (A life agenda to prepare intelligently for the inevitable collapse of industrial consumer society, and improve our chances of surviving the collapse and sowing the seeds of an adaptive Gaian culture that is symbiotic with, rather than parasitic upon, our biological support system.)
