Beautifully stated! This is the crux of our predicament today: the fundamental incompatibility of a money-based economy (which utterly depends on the infinite growth of production and consumption of commodities) with a finite global ecosystem and resource base. On a finite planet, the rules of the market inevitably devolve into a Monopoly game. And Monopoly--market logic applied to a finite system--has only one possible outcome: the winner owns everything, and everyone else owns nothing, and is deeply in debt to the winner! The the game is over.
