Being old myself (74) I can see, more clearly than anyone young, why sliming Biden as “mentally incompetent” simply because he stammers (as he has done since childhood) and has occasional memory lapses under the pressure of media glare—is a ridiculous claim. He has put together the most highly competent administration since Kennedy and has an array of solid legislative achievements despite vicious stonewalling of every initiative he brings to up by Republicans in both houses. He has also greatly strengthened NATO allies in leading a united front to push back against Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. In other words, he likely knows exactly what he’s doing even if he sometimes seems distracted in public appearances.
Contrast that with our only alternative! Trump spews out a nonstop word salad of blatant lies, fascist hate-mongering, claims of absolute, dictatorial power, and incoherent gibberish, even calling on Putin to invade our European allies! Is that what you want??
I too wish Biden had chosen to retire, if only for the optics, in a mostly clueless nation that judges by appearances. Gavin Newsome, for example, would be an excellent candidate. But if it is Biden vs Trump, anyone who throws away his vote on impossible third party candidates is opting for an unimaginable nightmare of deranged fascism, and is throwing away our democracy!
