Call me a “doomer” if you wish, but even if your fantasies about breeder reactors and fusion were true (which I strongly doubt) we will still need ample, dense, easily transportable energy sources—fossil fuels— to build out and maintain the infrastructures necessary to produce this new energy. Yet these are already overheating our planet due to carbon emissions, and wreaking havoc on ecosystems worldwide and on agriculture as well (not to mention melting ice caps and coastal flooding worldwide, along with flooding, huge storms due to water vapor increase, severe droughts, and wildfires)—all of which will lead to cascading crises and mass starvation…). I wish you techno-dreamers could understand that infinite growth of population, production, and consumption of commodities is impossible on a finite planet!
