Climate migration poses intractable ethical challenges for all of us. It is an open invitation to demonization of the poor and destitute “other” by fascist demagogues like Trump. I don’t have any answers to this dilemma, other than to take care of everyone and abandon no one, to the best of my abilities, and defend the vulnerable against hateful fascists wherever I can. But our policies at large must somehow blend firmness and clarity with compassion and insight into the underlying causes, both environmental and socioeconomic, of the vast flood of migrants swarming across our borders from the overheated, over-exploited global South…
