Collectively you are right: we are fucked. But individually, we still have options. The challenge is to “sell” these options in an invitational way, rather than through guilt or finger-pointing. Nobody wants to be TOLD to change their habits. They will only change their habits if they see an immediate benefit for themselves in doing so.. Benefits, that is, like fresh, local, organically grown produce from their own backyards or local CSAs. Benefits like getting to know their neighbors better by forming local garden guilds, where neighbors collaborate in learning, teaching, healing, and creating. Hence my go-to slogan for everyone (especially young people) who ask “What can I do?” My answer: Grow Gardens, Grow Community, Grow Awareness. In this way, as our civilization and planet collapse inexorably into chaos and madness, small Gaian “seed communities may find ways to survive and ultimately thrive, gradually healing our devastated planet. One can only hope…but even if we’re ALL doomed, those who live by this slogan will live longer and healthier lives than everyone else—even the
Super-rich, cowering in their bunkers and hoping their servants don’t turn on them when their money loses all its value…
