Dear Christyl,

It is very likely too late for us collectively--we have likely passed the climatic tipping point where the heating and destabilizing of our global climate system becomes self-accelerating no matter what we do, so that we face a truly hellish die-off of a large proportion of humanity and other living beings, with all the rampant social chaos, madness, and violence that will bring in its wake. So what can we do individually? Here's my take:

To the extent possible, studying Permaculture principles, we can adapt our own backyards and smallholdings to hotter climates as best we can, practicing xeriscaping and water retention techniques.

We can build community with our immediate neighbors by creating neighborhood garden guilds, where neighbors share gardening ideas, skills, tools, labor, and produce.

And we can do our best--while our governments are still intact, to elect principled, fully concious, ethical people to positions of power (No more Republicans, please!) who will enact policies that conserve water, tax the super-rich, and tend to the growing needs of the poor and destitute the best they can.

In short, we can GROW GARDENS, GROW COMMUNITY, AND GROW AWARENESS--starting this very moment, learning Gaia, teaching Gaia, healing Gaia, and creating Gaia. It's all we have left...
