Exactly. Their fiduciary responsibility to their owners is the centerpiece of their corporate charter. Nothing whatsoever about accountability to the larger public interest, nor to future generations. Indeed, the major premise of every corporation on the planet is that “more is always better” and “the Bottom Line is the bottom line.” The imperative to maximize profits and minimize costs to their shareholders trumps everything else (pun intended!)
