Excellent assessment! But we need to think more strategically about marketing the more adaptive alternatives to “endless growth” to a largely clueless and utterly brainwashed population. The concept of “degrowth” as a meme is a nonstarter—nobody will embrace such a concept other than fully aware folks like you and me—a tiny minority. Why not reconfigure the “growth” meme to more adaptive, relocalized purposes? Hence my own favorite slogan: “Grow Gardens, Grow Community, Grow Awareness.” These are all injunctions that can help us adapt (before we are forced to) to a collapsing global market economy by regenerating a local, Earth-friendly culture from the ground up (quite literally), without offending anyone.
