If you live in the alienated suburbs, as I do, make an effort to meet your neighbors, and to allocate parts of your yard, however small, to growing some of your own food. Then reach out to neighbors, fellow parishioners, and others in your social circles and form Garden Guilds to share ideas, skills, and food.
