I agree entirely, Matthew. A “Jewish democracy” is as much an oxymoron as an “Islamic democracy, a Hindu democracy, or indeed a “Christian democracy.” According to the Enlightenment-based definition articulated by luminaries such as Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and others, a true democracy is predicated on human equality, specifically in the sense of equal rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, secured by governments deriving their just power from the consent of (all) the governed, as indicated by the right to vote in free and fair elections, and the right to due process of law for resolving conflicts. These enlightened ideals form the original Logos of the USA, and should, in theory, govern our foreign policy and alliances as well.
