I agree that science—that is, reliance on evidence-based reasoning and fact checking—is far better than the toxic mishmash of paranoia, hatred, and sloppy thinking on social media. But AI is only as good as the presuppositions that define the scope and purpose of their fact finding and deductive forays into available research. And major premises are defined not by algorithms, but by the assumptions of those who ask the questions to begin with. And those assumptions, those premises, are rooted in feelings, hopes, fears, and predispositions of those who design these systems.
