I think that the choice between futile rage and sullen resignation in the face of the coming great collapse is a false dichotomy. There is a very empowering third choice: growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness. As the fossil fuel-based global market economy collapses incrementally, we can all reach out locally to those nearby and take care of everyone, abandoning no one, as we share knowledge and skills to become more resilient and less dependent on the collapsing infrastructures of fossil fuels, mass media, and money…our last, best hope for spontaneous remission of the Cancer of the Earth is to embrace wholeheartedly the ethics and practices of Permaculture.
