I think there is a difference between reincarnation and rebirth. One Zen monk I read about explained it as thus by asking another question: "When you blow out a candle at night, and relight it in the morning, is it the same flame or not?" Heraclitus made the same point when he said, "You can't step in the same river twice." My point is that the "candlewax" in one metaphor and the "water" in the other refer to karma itself--the web of cause and effect that gives rise to individual incarnations, just as a candle gives rise to light, when lit. Thank God we will not see another Donald Trump, but all the bad Karma he generated while alive will still need to be repaid, so in that way, he may well be "reborn"--not as one person, perhaps, but as a whole host of us--or all of us.
