I weary of all this anti-boomer vitriol. No one generation is responsible for the mess we are in today. It is the inevitable consequence of a worldwide consumer culture addicted to the endless “growth” of production and consumption (and therefore, of population growth and ecocide). And my generation created the largest, most affluent middle class in all history. It didn’t last, of course, but it could not possibly last in a finite world. But it created all the wealth that enabled later generations to enjoy its unprecedented fruits—up to a point.
