I wish I could agree with you on this. I would love nothing more than to live in a decentralized, equitable world where wealth is more equally distributed, the environment is healing, and all energy comes from the sun.
But I can’t get past the problem of net energy. To build a globe-spanning solar and renewable infrastructure would require a huge initial investment of readily available net energy to mine, transport, manufacture, and distribute solar, wind, and other renewable, decentralized technologies on a global scale. But the only currently available source of concentrated net energy is…fossil fuels. So my fear is that we may destroy our planet in the rush to save it.
