I wish people would stop blaming everything on "capitalism" --or on "socialism" for that matter. These terms are empty signifiers. As Gregory Bateson once said, they are "monstrous caricatures" that have nothing to do with the complexities of real life.

Corporate greed and mendacity, like that of Exxon (and every other large, multinational corporation) is simply a direct logical consequence of an economy based on arithmetic--that is, on money--whose major production rule is that "more is always better" and that "what's mine is not yours." In the real world--in Gaia--the exact opposite is true: enough is enough, and what benefits me can also benefit you, if I teach you what I know.
