I’m sorry you missed the author’s whole point. Net energy is the foundation of ALL economies and all of life. Where will the energy come from for the envisioned transition of our entire global infrastructure to solar and wind-powered electricity? Fossil fuels, of course; the only remaining source of (energetically) cheap net energy—and even that is getting harder (more expensive) to extract as it is depleted worldwide. The party’s over, I’m afraid…
