It’s all balderdash. Why trouble ourselves over an ancient Hebrew text written for a close-knit tribal society where everyone knew each other, gossip was rampant, and all moral authority depended on the local priests and their ancient “divinely inspired” texts. None of this has anything to do with modern life, especially in cities and suburbs, where we are all so isolated that we can behave as we like behind closed doors, with no effects on anyone else, so long as no harm is done. Keep that word “Balderdash” handy; it is very useful when accosted by fundamentalists!
