Like most economists, you are overlooking the real elephant in the room: the fundamental incompatibility between a zero-sum (money-based) global market economy that requires the infinite expansion of extraction, production, consumption of resources and population growth to function, on one hand—and a finite living planet on the other. When the biota can no longer adapt to accelerating climate extremes, and when fossil fuels are depleted sufficiently that their price-and that of everything else—skyrockets uncontrollably—the whole global economy will collapse and starvation, chaos, and death with await us all. The only way out of this looming, incremental catastrophe is to relocalize the means of production as much as possible—by growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness.
