One option that I would like to see more of would be invitational approaches to building resilient local communities. Rather than dropping truth bombs on people still in deep denial (“wake up, idiots, we’re all doomed!) we might begin with approaches like, “Enjoy growing vegetables? So do I! Let’s form a garden guild, here in our neighborhood, to share ideas and skills—and surplus apples or berries as well!” The slogan of my Garden Guild initiative, which I’m giving away for free to anyone who wants it, also sets forth its mission in its entirety: “Grow Gardens, Growing Community, Grow Awareness, by Learning, Teaching, Healing, and Creating. Imagine if that went viral! The net effect would be networked, contiguous neighborhoods, religious groups, schools, and civic organizations all building resilience and collaboration and simultaneously reducing their dependence on our doomed macro-infrastructures (fossil fuels, electrical grid, long supply lines, and the money system).
