One thing to add: these injunctions are useless, or even harmful, without grounding in what Buddhists call the Dharma, which consists simultaneously (as the Dalai Lama said) of a Principle, a Precept, and a Practice. Briefly:

Principle: This is because that is: an "inescapable network of mutuality" as MLK said.

Precept: Therefore, we must strive take care of everyone, and abandon no one. Take care of everything, and abandon nothing. (Lao Tzu)

Practice: Breathe, Observe, Let Go...(The Buddha)
