Scary times, to be sure. All we can do is exercise unusual vigilance in making sure all votes are counted accurately, and that Harris/Walz win by such a decisive margin that no challenges will hold any water. But then again, that's what happened in 2020, when Biden won decisively by 8 million votes.

Chris Krebs, the officer in charge of election cybersecurity at DHS (appointed by Trump!) declared at the time that this was "the freest and fairest election" he'd ever seen, whereupon Trump immediately fired him for telling the truth. Then came Jan. 6 assault, planned and instigated by Trump himself, aiming to thwart the peaceful transfer of power and enable him to seize power against the will of the public. His scheme only failed because Pence refused to violate his Constitutional obligation, and because Trump could not get his Justice department to go along with declaring martial law. A smarter would-be despot would have probably succeeded in just such a coup d'etat!
