The corporate elite have a name for this: "Regulatory Capture." It refers to their ongoing strategy to "capture" regulators (that is, governments) in order to prevent them from enacting any regulations that protect the public interest, and to ensure that these bought-out governments sell out their constituents in order to keep corporate profits growing.
