Thank you again for your indefatigable research on this grim topic, Richard. The only conclusion I can draw is that the pendulum of history has stopped. Throughout all of human history, times of adversity and prosperity, of war and peace, chaos and stability, tyranny and freedom, have fluctuated such that no matter how dire our present conditions are, we could always hope for a better future—if not for ourselves, then for our children and grandchildren. This hope has sustained our ancestors even through the darkest times…of war, plague, famine, or oppression. But today, hope itself is history. Things are getting steadily worse for humanity at an accelerating rate, and will never get any better.
So what can we tell our children?
