Thank you, Ben. We all need perspective these days, to offset paralytic dread. You may be right that Trump will not be able to realize all his toxic fascist fantasies of an authoritarian kleptocracy based on a mandatory cult of personality and brutal suppression of his adversaries, with thuggish paramilitary death squads ready to do his bidding in “disappearing” his detractors. But that is little comfort, since our collective future has already been shortened by climate chaos and global overshoot of population and resource consumption. There is precious little time left to turn any of this around and restore a functional democracy that actually serves the public interest! With the return of Trump, the corporate oligarchs will be free of any constraints on their devouring of our biological support systems! So the best we can do is grow gardens, grow community, and grow awareness—and stay involved in local politics!
