Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of cultural regeneration. When my wife and I took a cruise up to Alaska, we were treated to a presentation by an indigenous coastal culture in Prince Rupert, BC, on the way home to Seattle. It was a beautiful and rich culture! When I thanked one of the young participants for sharing their culture with us, he was unresponsive. Now I understand why! We Europeans, in our unbelievable arrogance and religious bigotry, had not only stolen and polluted their lands and waters, but had made a persistent, multigenerational effort to eradicate their culture itself by stealing their children and brainwashing them into our intolerant “my way or no way” religion! If I were one of them, I wouldn’t speak to me either!
