Thank you for sharing this, Richard, however bleak our prospects may be. As Bob Marley once sang, “The truth is an offense, but not a sin.” Right now, our collective attitudes toward the climate predicament can be mapped onto Elizabeth Kubler-Ross’s stages of dying. Most of us are still in denial, but many young people, starting with Greta Thunberg, have moved on to anger (which could become more acute and terrifying). Meanwhile a lot of techies have moved on to bargaining (e.g. Bill Gates, electrifying the infrastructure, geo-engineering fantasies, etc.) But the most adaptive option is acceptance—like the poignant final scene at the dinner table in the movie, “Don’t Look Up.”
