Thank you for sharing your ideas; this concept of “ecological bypassing” is a much-needed wake-up call. And you are absolutely right: flying halfway around the world to join a group of likeminded Gaian bodhisattvas just like our aspirational selves in healing a devastated parcel of land might feel virtuous and gratifying, but it does nothing to solve the bigger problem of…everyone else pursuing business as usual and rationalizing it in whatever way appeases their conscience. That takes the much harder work of starting where you are, talking to and organizing your neighbors (whether you like them or not), and growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness.
