Thank you for this grim but accurate assessment of our collective predicament, in a dying (peinherently unsustainable) civilization on a unique but dying planet. I grieve for the younger generations, especially those with young children, who will have to endure this vortex of progressive collapse of both their civilization and their biological support systems for the rest of their short lives.

As I often say, while collectively we are doomed, individually, we still have options. And our best option, in my view, is summed up in a slogan I invented, which I intend to put on lawn signs and bumper stickers: GROW GARDENS, GROW COMMUNITY, GROW AWARENESS--by learning, teaching, healing, and creating. When we grow gardens, we reduce our dependence on the collapsing global agricultural infrastructure. We also LEARN what works and what doesn't in our own (changing) climate zone. When we grow community, we can share this knowledge with our neighbors, and teach it to all our children. of how to grow our own food and reduce or eliminate our dependence on external subsidies. Once we form strong community bonds of mutual trust and collaboration, we can HEAL the fear and grief that grips our community as things grow worse.\, and also, where possible, heal our devastated topsoil and ecosystems as best we can. And finally, throughout all the collapse and destruction around us, we can begin, at least, to CREATE the seeds of a Gaian (Life-centered) world order on the smoking ruins of our current, cancerous civilization. Such thoughts keep me alive and breathing through the growing gloom all around me.
