Thank you for this insightful analysis and forecast of China's future direction toward lower emissions. But when I consider ALL the elements of our global polycrisis, I lose hope that anything can stop the juggernaut in time to save us from global climate catastrophe. Our global market economy--China included--is completely dependent on (1) readily available net energy (i.e. fossil fuels); (2) the money system--a zero-sum game that necessarily concentrates wealth in ever fewer hands, leaving more of the world destitute; and (3) the insane, cancerous economy that this money system demands, based on the necessary delusion of infinite growth of extraction, production, consumption, and pollution on a finite planet whose carrying capacity we have already overwhelmed. There is no escaping this predicament, I'm afraid.
