Thank you for this morally lucid assessment of the ghastly horrors perpetrated by Netanyahu and the IDF in Gaza. I’m vaguely hopeful that the Israeli citizens will turn against Netanyahu en masse, and that more IDF soldiers will revolt against the genocidal orders of their officers. There have been times in history (like the 18th century) when the cultural elite become so sickened by the relentless slaughter of religious conflicts (then, of course, between Catholics and Protestants) that new ideas—like intellectual freedom and religious tolerance, can gain a foothold. I pray that something similar can happen among Israelis and Palestinians alike, once they get weary of murdering each other in the name of their own tribal deity, and realize yet again that “all men are created equal,” entitled to equal rights under a government chosen by “consent of (all) the governed.” And that religious freedom is part of the package.
