Thank you for this reminder of the total, malevolent folly of the free-market fundamentalism embraced by Republicans. Let's hope the pendulum swings back again toward the Keynsian economics of the Roosevelt through Eisenhower years, and puts an end to this horrific past 40 years of Reaganomics and "the magic of the marketplace." But even Keynsian economics needs to be revised to account for the fundamental incompatibility of endless "economic growth" in a finite world. We need instead a steady-state economic model, rooted in relocalization and regenerative culture.
