Thank you for this truth bomb. We all need to wake up--especially--however painful it may be--those with children. One thing you overlook, however, is that there are invitational ways of doing this, rather than just terrifying children (and thereby risking both their psychic numbing and resentment.)

My own example of an invitational approach is my Garden Guild Initiative, which after much mulling over, is finally gaining a little traction. (Please read my piece entitled "Suburban Alienation and the Promise of Garden Guilds" for further information. You can also just put "Garden Guilds" into the search engine to see all my articles on this initiative.

My slogan for this initiative summarizes the totality of my mission: GROW GARDENS, GROW COMMUNITY, GROW AWARENESS--by Learning, Teaching, Healing, and Creating.

We can do this without even mentioning our global climate predicament, but the effect will be to build resilience in our own neighborhoods by encouraging us to collaborate--before we have to!
