Thank you for your useful suggestions on how to reform our dysfunctional Congress. But the root cause of all this corruption and malfeasance lies squarely with the Supreme Court’s sweeping “Citizens United” ruling, which kneecapped democracy by allowing corporations and other oligarchic interests to simply buy politicians who are then beholden to them to retain their seats. As a result, corporate interests always take precedence over the public interest, and any politician with the temerity to serve the public interest is quickly outspent and defeated by whatever corporate toadie is selected to run against them.
