I confess--though I've always been an often obsessive observer of politics--to be somewhat ostrich-like myself this past week, afraid to tune into the news I usually read and watch intently.

I am reminded of a very grim quote from Shakespeare's King Lear, where Edgar, the exiled and hunted "good brother" posing as a mad beggar, having been naively optimistic in his earlier soliloquies, finally concludes that "The worst is not/So long as we can say 'This is the worst' "
