Thank you, Jonathan! You are absolutely right about this. The only reason that folks like Bill Gates are pushing so aggressively for high-tech, high-investment "solutions" to the climate crisis are that these are investment opportunities which, if they caught on, could make people like him a whole lot richer. But there is a catch that these tech nerds seldom realize: that these high-tech "solutions" all depend on available net energy, or EROEI (Energy return on energy invested). Quite simply--to scale up ANY high-tech strategy for mitigating climate disruption would require an immediate huge investment in infrastructure build-out--meaning a huge investment of net energy. And where will that readily available net energy come from? You guessed it--fossil fuels!
