Thank you, yet again, for sharing the bad news in such highly informative detail. Abandoning hope is more adaptive than clinging to false hope. It gives us pause for introspection as we ponder how best to spend our remaining, darkening days—as if we all had terminal cancer. The best advice I know is from Lao Tzu: “Therefore the sage takes care of everyone and abandons no one. He takes care of everything and abandons nothing” (Gia Fu Feng tr.) Everyone and everything, that is, which is within our limited scope of influence. If we make this our asymptotic goal, it can bring a certain peace of mind as things fall apart all around us. Grow gardens, grow community, grow awareness. You have my gratitude for your incisive contributions to the latter.
