The ignorance of this article is astounding. First, you equate "science" with "technology" and both with the global market economy (wrongly called "capitalism" although it is not an "ism" at all.)

Very simply: the Agricultural Revolution created a runaway feedback loop: more grain-more people-more grain-depleted topsoil-more land-more monocultures-more grain-more people-depleted topsoil...At the same time, the runaway growth in monocultures, topsoil depletion, and human population growth created a whole new set of cultural premises--that humanity was the "master" of nature, and that the latter must be "subdued" to create mor,e space for explosive human growth and the acquisition of yet more money...And the discovery of fossil fuels turbocharged this feedback loop. The result is that the money-based global market economy, driven by fossil fuels, money, and technological innovation, is now the terminal Cancer of the Earth. Cancer arises when a maximizing subsystem (a tumor or an explosively successful species) parasitizes its own (optimizing) biological support system (the body or the Earth), oultimately destroying the basis of its own existence. The fault does not lie with "science" but with the intrinsic logic of money (More is always better and what's mine is not yours.) Science--that is, knowledge (which is what science actually means) is morally neutral, and can be used for promoting wisdom or greed, depending on who is paying the scientists!
