This article, insightful though it is, shares a blind spot common to many other techno-optimists: that all information technology runs on electric energy, and that this energy must be generated (with enormous losses to entropy) by cheap and abundant sources of heat—i.e. fossil fuels. And that fossil fuel emissions are already causing an accelerating destabilization of our global climate which could easily wipe out our vast, monocultural, petrochemical-dependent, ecocidal agriculture, worldwide. Cellphones are wonderful inventions but we cannot eat them!
