This deal had everything to do with a common enemy shared by Netanyahu and the UAE, but did nothing to address the perennial hostility between Israel and the Palestinians nor the brutal apartheid system Israel has imposed on its biggest minority. And while Trump takes credit (naturally), it had little to do with him either. Any aspiring dictator can lay claim to "good" decisions--Mussolini made the trains run on time, and Hitler alleviated mass unemployment by a huge military buildup (financed by US financiers--including Prescott Bush). The big question remains, however: what is their ultimate, driving motive? Global peace and security and social stability, freedom, and increasing affluence for all--or the acquisition of raw power to feed their egos and punish their enemies? With Trump, the answer is obvious.
