This Trump cult reminds me of Eugene Ionesco's play "Rhinoceros." The plot, in short, involves a protagonist from a small provincial town who starts to see people all around them morph into rhinoceroses, until he begins to feel that there is something wrong with HIM because he is still a human being. The play was a send-up of both the rise of fascism and of communism, both of which the author despised. And the Rhinoceros metaphor turns out to be apt, because these folks have turned into thick-skinned, brutal, mindless followers of the herd.
