True; the Dems were backed into a corner by the corrupted Supreme Court on this, after the Colorado decision, even though the court never took up the actual question of whether he had in fact committed an insurrection against the government. Rather their decision was procedural and jurisdictional-- not substantive. So after the election, Congress had the horrible choice between (1) triggering a Constitutional Crisis and violent outrage from Trump voters, or (2) going along to get along, despite the Constitutional ban on insurrectionists. The stark contrast was obvious between the Dems' decency and civility this time and the Repubs' boorishness in 2021 , but it had zero effect on the latter. Republicans simply don't care; all they want is power, at any cost.
