What you mean “we,” white man? While much of what you say about our bloody history is undeniable, I utterly reject the inference that “we” (“white” people”) are all — due to an accident of birth — accountable for what SOME white people have done in the past or even the present. This is collective guilt — the same vile logic that lead to the murderous destruction of Fallujah by the Bush regime because a small handful of angry young men had murdered four American mercenaries (who were anything but innocent).
As for your broader argument in support of violence because it worked in the past — organized self-defense against an invading foreign power (as in the American revolution) is vastly different from either rioting in the streets out of rage for police brutality OR terrorizing an elected state government by brandishing assault weapons (however repulsively asymmetric the police response was to these two rebellious acts.) And I challenge you to find me a single example in history of a violent peasant revolt that ended well. If you don’t like Gandhi’s spirituality, try Gene Sharp’s completely pragmatic argument against civil violence in his brilliant book “From Dictatorship to Democracy” (available online for free).
