Why am I not surprised? All of these nations--to whom their leaders are beholden--are totally addicted to fossil fuels to drive their money-based mandate of infinite economic "growth," since available net energy is the very foundation of any (especially industrial) economy. So whatever "pledges" they make at conferences like Glasgow are just for PR. The climate crisis cannot be averted within the same logical framework that created it to begin with: a money economy based on the unchallenged axiom that "more is always better" on a finite planet that is not growing any bigger. Rather, we are on our own: the best we can do is sow the seeds of a new, nonmonetary, local economy and culture from the ground up--a Gaian economy that works within the limits of its biological support system--by growing gardens, growing community, and growing awareness.
